Upon release, Life of Pi was a commercial success, grossing over $600 million worldwide. The film had its world premiere as well as the opening film of the 50th New York Film Festival at the Walter Reade and Alice Tully Theater in New York City on September 28, 2012. He was the only survivor of a shipwreck in his family, on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. The focal point of the film is about a 16-year-old Indian boy named Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel who has lost all those who were lost in his days adrift in the Pacific Ocean to survive with nature. The story is written by David Magee from Yann Martel's novel of the same name, directed by Ang Ang and starring Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Rafe Spall, GĂ©rard Depardieu, Tabu, and Adil Hussain. Life of Pi is a 2012 American live-action/computer-animated 3D film (a 3D computer-generated film that integrates graphic characters with scenes and real people), of the 2012 American adventure genre.
